Recommendation

We recommend the internship module especially to bachelor students who do not have to complete any compulsory internship in their major. There are no standards from our side when choosing your internship (position or field of activity).

Obligatory Elements - Procedure Module Internship Plus

1. Looking for an internship

You look for an internship of an overall duration of 4 or 6 weeks (fill-time or proof of at least 140 or 210 hours in case of part-time) in Germany or abroad, by yourself.

2. Registration by handing in the registration form before the start of the internship

Please submit the registration form (see download area) to ZfS no later than 3 weeks before the start of the internship. Based on the data in the registration form, you will get access to the online area of the module on ILIAS. There, you will find tasks that you have to complete and submit via ILIAS no later than 14 days before the start of your internship.

Please note that your internship may only start after the successful submission of the tasks and their positive examination by ZfS! Otherwise, no further participation in the module is possible.

You submit a copy of the internship contract to ZfS. If your internship provider does not have any contract form of his or her own, you can use our sample contract (see download area). The submission of the contract is obligatory, and it must be handed in after the internship or before the online reflection.

3. Tasks on ILIAS before the start of the internship

On ILIAS, you will find a schedule for the module, information on labor law, tips for a successful internship, and the preparatory tasks for your internship on the following topics: Criteria for job satisfaction, a personal skills, strengths inventory in the form of a competence profile, as well as a verbalization and a review of the personal internship goal. The work on the tasks takes about 8 hours.

4. Accompanied internship

You will be accompanied by ZfS during your internship. This accompaniment takes place via e-mail and on ILIAS and is a compulsory part of the module. Here, you can find more information about the accompaniment.

5. Learning diary

Another mandatory element is the keeping of a learning diary. You can find a short note here.

6. Reflection task on ILIAS

You will get access to the online reflection task on ILIAS after the end of your internship. You will also have to hand in your internship certificate (see download area).

7. Written documentation after the internship

The written documentation serves as a final reflection on your experiences and the transfer of knowledge. It consists of 10 - 12 pages and must be handed in via ILIAS not later than four weeks after the end of your internship. For further details, please see written documentation.

Finding an internship

You look for an internship position at home or abroad by yourself. The Internship Advising Service at the Student Service Center (SCS) offers assistance in planning, searching, and organizing your internship. Here, you will find answers to questions about financing, payment, as well as search and application strategies. You can also have your application documents checked. Extensive literature on internships, applications, and occupational fields is also available in the SCS Media Center. There you can also obtain the brochure "Schritt für Schritt zum erfolgreichen Praktikum" (meaning "Step by step to a successful internship", currently only available in German) with many further tips.

Internship contract and agreement

An internship contract must be signed between you and the internship provider. ZfS has prepared a model contract (see download area), in case your internship provider does not have its own contract form.
A copy of the signed contract must be submitted to ZfS after completing the internship or before the online reflection, at the latest.

Students must register for the module via ZfS at least three weeks before the internship begins.

Registration Period

The internship module can be taken at any time, regardless of the course registration procedure for the regular BOK teaching programs of the ZfS.

Registration Requirements

You can only register for this module if you have obtained an internship position before.

Registration Procedure

1. Please submit the completed registration form (see also ‚downloads for students‘) to the ZfS or drop it in the ZfS mailbox (Universitätsstr. 9, second floor) or send it by e-mail to praktikumsmodul@zfs.uni-freiburg.de.

2. We will activate your access to the tasks on ILIAS.

3. After the end of your internship, you will receive access to the online reflection on the module on ILIAS by e-mail.

Registration Confirmation

After successful completion and examination of the tasks on ILIAS, the internship module will appear on your transcript of records. Attention: Your internship must start after the successful submission of the tasks and their positive examination by ZfS! Otherwise, no further participation in the module is possible. Your registration must be displayed as "passed" on HISinOne before you start your internship. You will not receive any confirmation by e-mail, so you will have to check the electronic course catalogue yourself to see whether the first part has been passed (see „description of the enrolment procedure“)

Obligatory component of the support

After the first half of your internship, you will receive an email to the email address provided in the registration form (see download area). It contains the task definition for the obligatory interim reflection on ILIAS which is mainly about the experiences you made so far and reviewing your internship goal. The submission of the completed tasks via ILIAS is a compulsory part of the module.

Learning diary

In the learning diary, you can reflect and assess subjective learning experiences. It serves as an aid to organizing the reflection of what you experienced during the internship. On ILIAS, you will find an introduction to the method of the learning diary and tools for creating one. If desired, you can receive a spiral-bound notepad at ZfS, which you can pick up in our office. The learning diary can also be kept in digital form.

What is the module "Internship Plus"

The module "Internship Plus - Competence Training and Occupational Field Orientation" is a special form of voluntary internship. The module offers bachelor students of all fields of study the opportunity to earn ECTS credits (pass/fail assessment) for the interdisciplinary BOK section at ZFS by completing a voluntary internship, if the internship is completed within the module.

In particular, bachelor students who do not have to complete a compulsory internship can have a voluntary internship credited for the BOK area.

How do I submit my course registration request for the module "Internship Plus"?

You can submit your request for an internship at any time. Registration is independent of the ZfS (Center for Key Qualifications) booking phases.

Please submit the completed registration form to ZfS or drop it in the ZfS mailbox (Universitätsstr. 9, 2nd floor) or send it by e-mail to praktikumsmodul@zfs.uni-freiburg.de.

Can an internship be interrupted?

In principle, yes. If possible, you should complete at least four weeks at a time.

Can internships that were completed as part of a training program be credited?

Internships completed outside of the module cannot be credited, since the internship is only part of the module. Furthermore, the preparatory tasks on ILIAS before the start of the internship and the online reflection are integral parts of the module in which the internship is embedded.

Can already completed internships be credited in the BOK area afterwards?

Already completed internships cannot be credited retroactively.

Internships can only be credited within the internship module. The preparatory tasks on ILIAS before the start of the internship and the online reflection are integral parts of the module. Since the internship is only a part of the module, crediting outside the module is definitely not possible.

How long does the internship have to last in order to be recognized in the internship module?

For the recognition of the internship in the internship module, you have to prove a minimum of 140 hours of internship for 6 ECTS credits (a form for this can be found in the download area of the module), the total duration of the internship has to be at least 4 weeks (if necessary, minus vacation days).

If you want to earn 8 ECTS credits, you have to prove that you have completed at least 210 hours of internship. The total duration of the internship has to be at least 6 weeks (if necessary, minus vacation days).
