Welcome

The Center for Key Qualifications (Zentrum für Schlüsselqualifikationen, ZfS) is in charge of the compulsory courses on offer across the faculties in the fields of profession-oriented skills (Berufsfeldorientierte Kompetenzen, BOK) for Bachelor’s and Law students, along with the program accompanying the orientation internship (Begleitung des Orientierungspraktikum, OSP) for student teachers.

The ZfS is a department of the "Freiburger Akademie für Universitäre Weiterbildung" (FRAUW).

Key skills are developed during the cross-disciplinary courses, and students are given insights into broad-ranging occupational fields - a space is developed for them to explore their own skills, ideas and expectations, the job market requirements and other disciplines. All students at the University of Freiburg can take part in the ZfS program and gain the additional qualifications they need.

The interdisciplinary, practice-oriented range of courses on offer is delivered by more than 250 instructors from industry, academic disciplines and wider sectors of society, and standards are maintained by the board of directors of FRAUW, supported by the ZfS Quality Committee. Over one third of the instructors are University of Freiburg alumni, who pass on their knowledge and experience to students at their “alma mater”.

With a programme of 430 courses on average with around 6,500 participants per year, it is one of the five biggest instructional sections at the University of Freiburg.
